While Korg has moved on to the Nautilus and the Kronos (which can load Triton sounds via the "Triton Extreme" library for the Korg Collection VST), many artists insist the hardware tube and the "feel" of the original keybed cannot be emulated.

The instrument also accepts (Multi-Oscillator Synthesis System) expansion boards, adding DSP-based physical modeling synthesis (brass, reed, plucked string, bowed string, organ, and analog modeling). With MOSS, the Extreme effectively houses two distinct synth engines.

Unlike earlier Tritons, all effects can be fully edited and routed without sacrificing insert slots for the master reverb. This allows each timbre in a combi or sequence to have its own distinct effect chain.

Modern plugins try to emulate this, but they fail to capture the dynamic response. When you hammer the keys on a Triton Extreme 61 with the valve cranked, the tube reacts like a guitar amp—sagging and snarling in real time.
