Making her debut, Lara Dutta had the difficult task of playing the 'ideal girl'—a character archetype often sidelined for being boring. However, Dutta infuses Kajal with dignity and grace. She isn't just a prize to be won; she is a woman grappling with immense loss. Her performance in the second half, where she must navigate her loyalty to her sister-in-law and her lingering bond with Raj, is nuanced. She won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut, and rightfully so; she commanded the screen with a presence that was both elegant and grounded.
“Yeh Raat Yeh Fiza” is the only memorable track. The rest are forgettable. Production design is tacky-glamorous – fake flowers, glassy palaces. Editing is loose; the film could have been 20 minutes shorter. andaaz movie review
