The Deva-3 popularized the concept of ISO (Isolated) tracks. It allowed mixers to record the stereo mix on tracks 1 and 2, while simultaneously recording the isolated feeds from every microphone on tracks 3 through 8. This gave post-production sound editors unprecedented flexibility. They could remove a rustle from a lavalier mic or boost a whispering actor without affecting the rest of the scene. This "safety net" fundamentally changed the relationship between production sound and post-production.
