Bioinformatics !new!
Genomics is the study of entire genomes. When a sequencer reads DNA, it breaks the genome into tiny, overlapping fragments (reads). Bioinformatics algorithms—such as those using "de Bruijn graphs"—stitch these fragments back together like a jigsaw puzzle with millions of pieces. Tools like (Burrows-Wheeler Aligner) and SAMtools allow researchers to map these reads to a reference genome, identifying every single letter difference (called a Single Nucleotide Polymorphism, or SNP).
