— Inspired by “Muchacha (Ojos de Papel)” by Almendra (1969)
In this context, three teenagers—Luis Alberto Spinetta (guitar, voice), Emilio del Guercio (bass), and Rodolfo García (drums)—formed Almendra. Their goal was not to mimic the electric aggression of the Anglo-Saxon scene, but to create a sonido rioplatense : a sound of the Río de la Plata, airy, melancholic, and profoundly literary.
"Paper" is blank, white, and impressionable. To have "paper eyes" might mean to see the world without prejudice, with the innocence of a child or a virgin page. In a world of cynicism, the muchacha represents a pure, non-judgmental gaze. Spinetta venerates this quality not as weakness, but as a superpower. She doesn't need to change the world; looking at it with paper eyes is enough.
