Discord’s automated client integrity checks are getting better. In 2024–2025, Discord began rolling out enhanced telemetry that can detect client-side modifications. While they historically turn a blind eye to BetterDiscord for visual themes, is seen as deceptive behavior and interference with core functionality.

When you enable the plugin and then click the deafen button, the plugin tells the server you are deafened (so others see the red crossed-out headphone icon), but it prevents your local client from actually cutting off the audio stream.
