The original physical disc runs on any PS3. But the digital PS3 version (the one that used to be on PSN) required firmware 3.55. If you have a jailbroken PS3 on Rebug, Evilnat, or Ferrox, you bypass this. The custom removes the firmware requirement entirely, allowing it to run on 4.89+ CFW.
Buy a physical copy of The Orange Box for PS3 from a second-hand store (it is very cheap). Then, use PS3 Disc Dumper or Multiman to create your own personal ISO or PKG backup.
