Originally released as a web game before getting the "Deluxe" treatment, the 2007 Peggle is a masterpiece of game design. The premise is simple: You launch a ball from the top of a screen. You must clear all the orange pegs. You have ten shots.
These are the versions you played on the bus or on your iPod Nano.
The game that started it all. Inspired by pachinko and bagatelle, the original Peggle introduced the world to Bjorn the Unicorn and the Peggle Institute. Players work through 55 levels, using different "Peggle Masters" who provide unique power-ups, like the Super Guide or the Multiball. It set the gold standard for "feel-good" game design, specifically with its use of Beethoven’s "Ode to Joy" during the climax of every level.
Peggle Nights is for the hardcore fan who already memorized the original boards. It is harder, weirder, and lacks the "first time magic" of the original, but it is arguably the most challenging and rewarding entry in the series.
Before Blast , there was Pop . This was a social network game where you challenged your friends' high scores. It had "Gems" and "Power-ups" you could buy with Facebook Credits. It was shut down in 2012 when Facebook shifted away from Flash games. It no longer exists.
Often cited by purists as the best game in the series, Peggle Nights is a standalone expansion. Instead of abstract fantasy levels, Nights takes place inside the of the Peggle Masters.
