Vas 6617 2 |top| Jun 2026

The direct-shift gearbox (DSG) uses high-precision tapered roller bearings on the mechatronic side and differential. The VAS 6617/2 is specified in the workshop manual for removing the output shaft bearing without scoring the shaft journal.

Place the VAS 6617/1 bridge over the shaft end. Thread the central pulling spindle through the bridge and into the threaded hole of the VAS 6617/2. vas 6617 2

Using only the rear lock (VAS 6617/1) and ignoring VAS 6617/2 leads to a “half-tooth” off condition, triggering P0016 (Cam/Crank Correlation) and rough idle after reassembly. Always use both tools together. Thread the central pulling spindle through the bridge

Even with the correct tool, errors happen. Here is what to watch out for: Even with the correct tool, errors happen

Using a torque wrench or a long-handled ratchet, turn the spindle clockwise to apply tension. Do not impact. Turn smoothly. The bearing will release with a distinct "pop" once the interference fit is overcome.

The VAS 6617/2 ensures the pulling force is applied perfectly axially (straight along the shaft). Generic pullers often pull at a slight angle, leading to:
