Arthur decided to try the official software first. He downloaded it, installed it, and then spent the next three hours trying to get his computer to recognize the radio. It was like a digital game of hide-and-seek, with the radio being the champion hider. Finally, after a series of increasingly desperate clicks and a few choice words that his grandmother wouldn't have approved of, the software finally saw the radio.
Frustrated, Arthur turned to the internet. He searched for "Baofeng UV-10R Programming Software" and was met with a dizzying array of options. There was the official software, which looked like it had been designed in the late 90s, and then there was something called CHIRP.
Because the UV-10R features three power levels (High, Mid, Low), you should select Vendor: Baofeng and Model: BF-F8HP in CHIRP to ensure all three levels are available for programming.
