Boon’s guitar sounded like a telegraph machine from another dimension; Mike Watt’s bass delivered philosophical monologues about economics, friendship, and corn dogs. Their 1984 double album Double Nickels on the Dime is arguably the Q punk bible. Listen to “History Lesson – Part II”: two minutes of personal punk genealogy that ends with Watt whispering, “Our band could be your life.” It’s a question disguised as a statement.
