The production design is equally stunning. The Continental Hotel is not yet the gilded palace of the films. It is worn, smoky, and decaying. The velvet is frayed, the chandeliers are covered in dust, and the basement houses a literal torture chamber powered by the hotel’s boiler. This is a Continental that smells of whiskey, blood, and mildew. It creates a tactile, lived-in world that feels more real than the CGI-augmented backdrops of much modern television.

For fans of the franchise’s lore, The Continental is a treasure trove. We finally see the system in its nascent form, long before the cool, androgynous figure played by Asia Kate Dillon in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum .
