The fight is far from over. But if history is any guide, the transgender community will continue to lead, and the rest of us would do well to follow—not as allies, but as co-conspirators in the ongoing revolution of being truly free.
This has forced mainstream LGBTQ organizations to pivot. Where once the focus was on marriage equality (a "liberty" issue), the focus is now on survival (an "existence" issue). LGBTQ culture is rapidly adapting to a "defensive" posture, organizing mutual aid networks, legal defense funds, and "trans sanctuary" policies.
