The next day, Tomoko tries a new strategy: acting like a quiet, mysterious "kuudere" (cold beauty) from visual novels. She sits in the back, stares out the window dramatically, and says nothing. No one notices her. She tries to drop her pencil to get a boy to pick it up for her — but when a boy does pick it up, she panics, snatches it from his hand without saying thank you, and then internally screams at herself for being rude.

Watamote Episode 1 provides a glimpse into Tomoko's daily life, showcasing her relationships with her friends, family, and crush. We meet her best friend, Sawako, who is outgoing and confident, providing a perfect contrast to Tomoko's insecurities.
