Players take control of (not the classic white-haired, cocky son of Sparda, but a black-haired, chain-smoking, punk-rock orphan). He lives in a limbo state, hating demons but also despising the humans who cannot see the corruption around them. Alongside his brother Vergil (now a mysterious data analyst), Dante discovers he is a Nephilim—half-angel, half-demon. Together, they aim to overthrow Mundus, the demon king who controls the world through debt, media manipulation, and sugary soft drinks.

The narrative followed Dante and his brother Vergil as they fought to liberate humanity from the demons that secretly controlled the world through media, banking, and politics. The story was a subversive take on consumerism and control, rendered in Ninja Theory’s signature cinematic style.
