The premise was brilliantly simple yet endlessly versatile: Shawn Spencer (James Roday Rodriguez), a man with hyper-observant skills trained by his police officer father, Henry (Corbin Bernsen), pretends to be a psychic to avoid arrest for providing tips to the police. He drags his reluctant, pharmaceutical-selling best friend, Gus (Dulé Hill), into the scheme, opening "Psych" – a psychic detective agency.
