This is the title of the celebrated 2022 anime adaptation of Aki Hamaji’s four-panel manga. Bocchi the Rock! follows Hitori Gotoh—“Bocchi” (a play on words meaning “lonely” or “isolated”)—a socially anxious high school girl who dreams of forming a band and becoming popular. Her journey begins when she joins the band Kessoku Band (literally “Constriction Band” or “Band of Ties”), alongside the energetic drummer Nijika Ijichi, the cool bassist Ryo Yamada, and the cheerful guitarist Kita Ikuyo.
