In the world of automotive diagnostics, software tuning, and fleet management, data is king. Modern vehicles generate terabytes of information, much of it stored in proprietary log formats. Two of the most common—yet misunderstood—file extensions you will encounter are (Measurement File 4) and BLF (Binary Logging Format).

MF4 supports high-precision timestamps (nanoseconds). BLF typically uses microseconds. Rounding can occur. For short logs (<1 second), this is irrelevant. For 24-hour fleet logs, accumulated jitter may misalign events.
