The anime, which ran from 1996 to 2004, chronicles the daily life of Kankichi Ryotsu, a middle-aged police officer stationed at a police box (koban) in front of Kameari Park in the Katsushika ward of Tokyo. Ryotsu is not your typical hero. He is lazy, greedy, constantly hatching "get-rich-quick" schemes, and often defies his superiors. Yet, he has a heart of gold and an incredible amount of physical strength (and luck) when the chips are down.
