The first digital video files emerged in the 1980s, with the introduction of the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) format. MPEG allowed for the compression and playback of video files on computers, paving the way for the widespread adoption of digital video. As technology advanced, new formats emerged, including AVI (Audio Video Interleave), which was introduced by Microsoft in 1992.
