Sodor Workshops Archive

The Sodor Workshops were established in the early 1950s by the Reverend Wilbert Awdry, the creator of Thomas & Friends. Awdry, a railway enthusiast and Anglican priest, wanted to bring his love of trains to life through storytelling and illustration. He drew inspiration from his own experiences as a railway enthusiast and his observations of the steam trains that chugged along the lines of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS).

Access to the Archive has allowed fans to create hyper-accurate 3D models, realistic route maps for train simulators, and historically plausible backstories for the lesser-known engines of the Arlesdale Railway. sodor workshops archive
