In a stroke of genius, Akhtar changes the ending. The original Don ended with Vijay (the look-alike) retiring to raise his son. In Don 2006 , we learn that the "innocent" Vijay was Don all along, faking amnesia and manipulating everyone. The final shot of Khan’s face morphing from Vijay’s smile into Don’s sinister smirk is now legendary. It changed the film from a decent remake into a psychological thriller.
