Moroccan sources differ on whether the Sultan commissioned the book to create a secret weapon against the Ottoman Empire or whether Al-Falaki wrote it in secret defiance of Islam. The most famous legend states that Al-Falaki used 40 different inks (including human blood, saffron, and mercury) over 404 days to pen the manuscript. When the Sultan’s advisors saw the first page – which began with a reversed Basmalah (“In the name of Iblis, the Proud, the Rejected”) – they declared Al-Falaki an apostate. He was arrested and allegedly executed in the prison. However, copies of his book had already been made by his disciples. Contains alleged talismans
