Visually, Babylon Berlin has always been sumptuous, but Season 4 adopts a colder, grittier palette. The golden hour of Season 1 is gone. Here, the lighting is harsh, fluorescent, and fractured. The scenes in the (the actual catacombs and sewers where the homeless live) are shot with a documentary-style bleakness.
