CorelDRAW X5 was the last version before Corel moved toward more aggressive UI overhauls (X6 and X7). For many professionals, X5 was the "peak reliability" release. It was lightweight enough to run on an old Pentium laptop but powerful enough to run a vinyl cutter or design a 48-page brochure.
The tracing engine received a major overhaul. It could convert blurry JPEGs and pixelated logos into crisp, editable vectors with far fewer nodes than previous versions. Sign makers loved this for cutting vinyl from customer sketches.
