Older versions of M.U.G.E.N, particularly the beloved (versions 1.0 and earlier), were compiled as 32-bit applications. On a Windows operating system, a 32-bit application is hard-coded to use a maximum of 2 gigabytes of RAM (or 3GB with a specific boot flag). For a normal fighting game, 2GB is plenty. But for a bloated M.U.G.E.N build containing 3,000 characters, high-definition stage textures, and massive music files, 2GB fills up instantly.
