Set in 1814, the story follows James Keziah Delaney, an adventurer who returns to London after ten years in Africa to inherit his father's shipping empire. He finds himself in a deadly game of chess between the East India Company and the British and American governments over a valuable piece of land called Nootka Sound.

When FX and BBC One released Taboo in January 2017, audiences were not prepared for the visceral, muddy, and psychologically complex world they were about to enter.
