Under the Intellectual Property Act No. 36 of 2003, films are protected for 70 years after the death of the creator. Most Sinhala films from the 2000s onward are actively protected by producers (like Cine Mass Communication or Ridma).
The first wave of these blogs didn't host movies directly. They acted as directories. Bloggers would upload movies to third-party file-hosting sites like and later Google Drive or Google Photos .
