Never mix mods designed for 1.6 with a 1.5.6.39 game. This will cause crashes, missing items, or broken saves. Before launching, disable auto-updates for any launcher
Steam normally forces automatic updates, but the platform includes a “Betas” feature that can sometimes allow you to roll back to older versions. Note: As of late 2024/early 2025, Steam’s official beta branch for 1.5.6.39 may have been removed or archived. Check first.
Some veteran players dislike the new 1.6 mastery system, which they feel trivializes the endgame. Others find the Desert Festival too grindy. If you prefer the “pure” 1.5 endgame where Ginger Island is the final frontier, 1.5.6.39 is the definitive version.
Once installed, navigate to the folder and find Stardew Valley.exe .
