This is the grey area. As of 2024-2025, Power of the Dollar remains a bootleg collector’s item. Because Columbia Records never officially released the album to the public (only sending a handful of promotional copies to DJs in 2000), the album exists in a legal loophole.

In May 2000, shortly before filming a music video for "Thug Love," Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson was shot nine times in Queens, New York. Following the incident, Columbia Records dropped him from the label, reportedly fearing he would be unable to record or promote music again.
