Review: I needed to open a legacy PDF form that wouldn’t render correctly in the latest Acrobat Reader version. Downloading an older release (e.g., Acrobat Reader XI or DC 2015) solved the compatibility issue instantly. The installer is lightweight, launches fast, and lacks the constant upgrade nags and cloud features of modern versions.

You cannot ignore this section.

Large organizations are slow to change. A company might have an internal document management system (DMS) or a proprietary plugin that was only certified to work with Acrobat Reader 10.1.4. Upgrading to the latest version could break integrations, invalidate digital signatures, or create a cascade of IT support tickets. For these environments, the old version isn’t a preference—it’s a requirement.

Last version for Windows XP and Vista; support ended in 2017. Acrobat DC (2015)

This is the single biggest risk. PDF files have historically been a vector for malware. Hackers often exploit vulnerabilities in the PDF rendering engine to execute malicious code.
