Microsoft has heard the complaints. With Windows 11, Microsoft released a massive emoji update in 2022 (the "Fluent" emojis). They switched from outlines to filled, 3D-ish designs. They added a "glossy" effect to some emojis. While they still aren't Apple clones, the gap is closing.
