Unlike console games where you leave Disc 1 in the tray, GTA V for PC does not require a disc to play after installation. The launcher handles the check. So, once installed, you can shelf the 7-disc set permanently.

While GTA V primarily uses Rockstar Social Club authentication, early retail discs used a form of disk-check DRM. If your DVD drive is dying, the game might fail to verify Disc 1. Once installed and activated, you never need the discs again—but you do need them for the install.

Unlike the digital version, which gives you a pixelated PDF, I can spread this map out on my desk. It feels like I’m a real heist planner.
