Between 2005 and 2008, the Romanian daily newspaper launched an ambitious editorial project. Partnering with major record labels (including Universal Music, EMI, and Roton), the newspaper released a weekly DVD or CD series titled "Muzica de Colectie" (Collector's Music).
Most recordings are still under copyright (typically 70 years post-mortem for composers, plus performers' rights). The Jurnalul Național had a temporary license to distribute these CDs with the newspaper, but that license does not extend to free public downloads .
