The Srirasmi Thai Fashion and Style Gallery offers a model for post-colonial fashion museology. Rather than presenting Thai dress as a static, exotic artifact, it frames it as a series of deliberate choices—hybridizations, resistances, and affirmations—made by embodied subjects across centuries. By centering Mom Srirasmi as a style icon rather than a political figure, the gallery sidesteps the hagiography of monarchical displays while still valuing the aesthetic labor of the court. This section focuses on pre-19th century court textiles, emphasizing the lai kanok (flame-like) motifs and the use of yok dok (continuous supplementary weft) techniques. A centerpiece is a pha nung believed to belong to Queen Sri Sudachan (circa 1548), woven with real silver threads. The gallery’s innovation here is the use of multispectral imaging to reveal original indigo dyes that have faded to grey, projected onto mannequins so visitors see both the current and original appearance.
