Daddy Day - Care
The first five years of a child’s life are critical for emotional development. Historically, fathers missed much of this due to long work hours. Now, children who grow up with a "Daddy Day Care" father develop a secure attachment style with both parents. They learn that comfort, safety, and love can come from a masculine figure just as readily as a feminine one.
To understand where we are, we must look back at the cultural landscape of the 1980s. The term "Mr. Mom" (popularized by the 1983 film of the same name starring Michael Keaton) was the prevailing archetype. It suggested that a man caring for children was a temporary, emasculating emergency measure—a role forced upon him by unemployment. The comedy derived from the absurdity of a man trying to operate a vacuum cleaner. Daddy Day Care
