Backup-tools19 is a modular, command-line and GUI-hybrid backup utility framework. Initially released in the third quarter of 2019, it was engineered to solve the "backup paradox"—the need for both speed and reliability. Unlike consumer-grade tools (e.g., Time Machine or File History), Backup-tools19 was built with system administrators in mind, offering features like block-level deduplication, incremental forever backups, and bare-metal restoration.
Immediately after the local job finishes, trigger a copy job to LTO-9 tape. Backup-tools19 treats tape as a first-class citizen, including auto-loader support.
For today, Backup-tools19 remains a gold standard for admins who need forensic-grade reliability. The tool's commitment to backwards compatibility means that backup sets created in 2020 can still be restored on the 2025 agent.
